LES TERMES DÉSIGNANT LA TECHNOLOGIE : TECHNOLOGY, HIGH TECH, TECH, TECHNIQUE

TECHNOLOGY

 

Sans article, ce terme désigne la technologie, les techniques (en général) :

HIGH TECHNOLOGY (abr. HIGH TECH) ET LOW TECHNOLOGY (abr. LOW TECH)

 

L’expression high technology, apparue à la fin des années 1950, désigne la technologie de pointe, la haute technologie (calque), les techniques de pointe (pl), le dernier cri de la technologie.

 

Son abréviation, high tech, a commencé à apparaître au début des années 1970.

High technology s’oppose à low technology (abr. low tech), la basse technologie (calque), la technologie fruste, la technologie primitive.

 

Adjectivé, high-tech se traduira par de la haute technologie, de haute technologie, de haute technicité, à la pointe, dernier cri, futuriste :

   - to miss the high-tech train manquer le train de la haute technologie

   - a high-tech company une société de haute technologie

   - a high-tech field un domaine de haute technologie (syn. a high-tech sector un secteur de haute technologie)

   - information technology a/ les techniques (pl) de l’information; b/ l’informatique

   - production technology la technologie de production, la productique

   - voice morphing technology la technologie de simulation de la voix

 

L'adjectif correspondant à technology est technological, technologique, technique :

   - to be in the vanguard of technological change être à l'avant-garde / à la pointe de l'évolution technologique
